Post The Traz - A Farewell
Well, 3 of us made it back for a farewell visit to the 'Traz. We stood where Ron had stood outside the Rathaus and we waved at where we hoped the camera was. Of course it might have been a better idea if one of us might have taken the time and trouble that Ron did and pre-arrange a time to wave at the camera, oh well, the thought was there!

Osnabruck, or at least the military aspects of it, looks very sad these days. Robets Barracks, whilst still inhabited is looking very shabby. The swimming Pool has been filled in and is now a field. The open panzer sheds have gone as has the car park and stables behind the old field ambulance. Red Square is now tarmacked and fenced in. Block 4 is in disrepair with weeds growing all around it. Two of the other blocks are in such bad states of repair they have been condemned and no one is allowed in for safety reasons! A big thank you to the RP Bombadeer at 4 Regt RA for allowing us in to look around and another big thanks to Amy who was RA, re-badged from RAMC and who walked round with us. Amy left Osnabruck, with the advance party from 4 RA back to the UK, last Sunday. Good luck Amy and thank you.

THE BIGGEST CRIME OF ALL, the Winkelhausen Ecke is now an apartment block - no farewell drink there.

We went on to Dodesheide which had changed out of all recognition but did stop at Jim Blake's schnellie for lunch. On up to Belm, no NAAFI, no med centre, no school, no military just loads of Russians and Poles and the blocks all looked dirty and tatty.

Back to Sedan Strasse. Belfast Barracks is now closed and the MRS is defunct. The main NAAFI and SKC are gone although Prestatin and Woolwich Barracks still seemed to be in use.

In to the old town through the Heger Tor and into the bars for more than a few drinks.

The people who I was there with made the return to the 'Traz bearable, I wish there could have been more, especially Stu and Christel. I found the military side of the 'Traz rather sad and neglected and most of the stuff I remembered was gone. Even the Nettebad is now all indoors!

Block 4 the old 7 Field (Note the weeds - no, not us you plonker!)

The MRS, or what was the MRS

Mark and Jim plus John
I am sorry I could not have been with you as you say Mark the Traz is nothing like we knew it , My son said last week that a lot of the local people are now saying that they regret us leaving the town as there is a lot out of work, plus the VW plant closes next year so more out of work .
Jim Blakes looks as though it needs a clean up even if it is a new building from what I can remember.

Brian :( :o

We thought you must be coming home when they announced a recession! Beer, schnapps in fridge bratties in Lidl curry ketchup in cupboard - what are you waiting for?
